About David Thrasher, co-owner of Not Just Games
Ever since I was little, I have had a passion for games. Some of my favorite memories involve games! From playing a form of baseball in the house with a foam ball and bat with my family after dinner to making up games with my friends, games have played and important part of my life. Games connect people in ways that nothing else outside the gospel can. I have found myself drawn to games and using them as a way to draw people together since I can remember, which is no surprise to many who know me that my wife, Michele and I have started our own faith-based team building company.
Not Just Games was birthed out of having a passion for the local church combined with a passion for games. Ever since middle school my hope and dream was to be a youth pastor. And many of the decisions I made were for the cause of supporting the local church. I attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and received my degree in Youth Ministry and Bible. It was there that I fell in love with the Lord through the depth of His word and a depth of theology. One of my classes in particular I remember walking out of almost every single class in awe and wonder of the Lord and having a greater understanding of the gospel. I wanted the students I was working with to experience this same awe and wonder, which led me to attend Dallas Theological Seminary to get my Masters in Theology. The beauty of the gospel is that it is so simple that a child can understand and be saved, but has so much depth that even the deepest of minds can never fully fathom the depth of the gospel and of who God is. My desire in attending DTS was to know the Bible and theology in a way that I could draw students further into the depths of who God is and what He is doing in the world for a generation of believers to run fast after the Lord as disciples rather than run from the Lord after certain milestones in their lives. While attending DTS, I worked for a team building company, working with anywhere from 6th graders to 75 year-olds. I saw the value and opportunity that games have, and I believe if led in light of gospel truth, can be powerful tools used for the Kingdom. I have led over 20,000 participants in team building programs and am excited for the years to come in order to support the church by utilizing games for the cause of discipleship and community!
